The Bayfront Beautification Clean Up Project
The Erie Community Foundation teamed up with Gannon Students to clean up Erie’s Bayfront. The Bayfront Beautification Clean Up Project took place April 21st, 2012. The Bayfront Beautification Clean Up Project was in conjunction with Gannon University’s Day of Caring which is focused on improving the appearance and safety of the Erie environment.
The Bayfront Beautification Project is part of the Foundations 75th anniversary, which was celebrated at last year’s annual meeting. The Foundation committed $75,000 to the project and coordinated the donations of local universities, hospitals, banks, manufacturers and businesses to see the three phases, multi year project to completion. “Once completed, the Bayfront Beautification Project will welcome visitors to our community but also make a lasting impact for future generations to enjoy our Bayfront asset,” said Mike Batchelor, president of The Erie Community Foundation.
“We are again this year focusing on the Erie-GAINS target area and on the environment, and the Bayfront Beautification meets both criteria,” said Arlene Montevecchio, Gannon\'s Day of Caring activity coordinator. Twenty-five Gannon students and The Erie Community Foundation Staff had bags and gloves to collect the trash and debris. The day was devoted to cleaning up Erie’s Bayfront so it is a safer, prettier, and cleaner place.
